Euclid High School Honors Students

The students and staff of Euclid High School have many reasons to celebrate during the recently completed first quarter of the 2010-2011 school year. Improved student behavior and academic achievement highlighted a positive opening of school. The administration collaborated with teacher leaders to ensure students received recognition for their outstanding efforts.

EHS is proud to report that 685 students, 31 percent of the student body, earned at least merit roll status by achieving a grade point average of 3.0 or above. Of these excellent students, 74 achieved a grade point average of 4.0 or higher, a tally made possible by the additional weighting of honors courses. Students who received all As enjoyed a breakfast celebration hosted by Mayor Bill Cervenik, known as the Mayor's Team Breakfast. Other students on the merit, honor, and distinguished honor rolls received personalized notes from their grade principal, ice cream from the school cafeteria, breakfast with their peers, or lanyards indicating their status as honor students.

An even larger number of students earned distinction as Excellent Citizens through their referral-free status after one quarter of school. These students displayed outstanding character in their classrooms, throughout the school's common areas, and at extra-curricular activities. Sixty-six percent of the student body, 1,460 students, earned this important distinction. Students celebrated with a complimentary lunch from Chick Fil-A in Willoughby. The Euclid Avenue restaurant generously donated chicken sandwiches, brownies, and potato chips for all deemed Excellent Citizens. Coca-Cola donated drinks. Staff members, including principals, worked the serving lines to show their appreciation for student efforts.

Recognizing outstanding performance is one element of improving school culture and student achievement. The staff of Euclid High School is working to ensure that even more students will earn these impressive distinctions in the second quarter of our school year.
