Congresswoman Fudge hosts "For the People" job fair and town hall meeting

Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge

With Ohio's unemployment rate heading in the wrong direction, Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) is pleased to announce she will host a For the People job fair and town hall meeting at Cleveland State University Aug. 8.  Approximately 50 employers with more than 800 job openings have confirmed their participation and the list continues to grow.

"For the first time in two years, Ohio's unemployment rate rose in June, reaching 8.8 percent, while reported unemployment in the African American community is a staggering 16.2 percent. With the reported number this high, the actual level of African American unemployment could be at much higher levels. By hosting a job fair, I want to do my part to connect people in our community who are ready to work with employers who are ready to hire," said Congresswoman Fudge.

The day-long job fair will include job readiness workshops and technical assistance seminars including resume writing, interview skills and salary negotiations. There is no charge to attend. Following the job fair, Congresswoman Fudge will be joined by other members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) for a town hall meeting to discuss the Congressional Black Caucus' For the People Jobs Initiative. Congresswoman Fudge welcomes input from residents and organizations in Northeast Ohio about how to solve the nation's unemployment crisis.  Similar job fairs and town hall meetings will take place around the country. Congresswoman Fudge joins the CBC in its commitment to produce tangible results in struggling communities through legislation that creates jobs, fosters minority business opportunities, and builds a foundation for the future.
