"There's no Show without Biz!" at Shore

Join two of Northeast Ohio's leading actors, Jeffrey Grover (Take Shelter, Compliance, Miles Ahead) and Peter Lawson Jones (Detroit 1-8-7, Alex Cross, White Boy Rick), on April 14th at Shore Cultural Centre as they share, through personal experiences, the tricks and trades of working in theatre, film and television throughout the country while maintaining your home base in Cleveland or any city in the region; from the do’s and don’ts of working with agents and casting directors to joining Actors Equity and Screen Actors Guild, this workshop will offer practical and anecdotal information for both the novice and experienced actor. 

Actor/Writer/Producer Jeffrey Grover is a member of Actors’ Equity and SAG-AFTRA. Grover has appeared in numerous films including Miles Ahead, Compliance, Take Shelter, I Am Wrath, My Blind Brother and The Kings of Summer. He will soon be seen in 2018 releases of I Feel Pretty, Galveston, Madtown and Roebling’s Bridge. His recent Cleveland theatrical credits include Angels in America, All The Way, God of Carnage, Death and the Maiden and Annapurna. In New York, his most recent credits include Kiss Me Kate, Botanic Garden, Leah The Forsaken and Defamation. Jeff is partners with Andrew Gorell and Steve Hacker in g2h films. They are in pre-production for their fourth film, "You Go First," which shoots this June.

Actor/playwright Peter Lawson Jones, a Harvard grad, is a member of both Actors’ Equity and SAG-AFTRA. He has appeared in over twenty films (White Boy Rick, Alex Cross, Starve), on network television (ABC’s Detroit 1-8-7) and on stages throughout Northeast Ohio and in New York. He is co-executive producer of the documentary Fatherhood 101. Peter received the 2016 Indie Gathering International Film Festival Best Ohio Supporting Actor and the 2012 African American Playwrights Exchange Artist of the Year awards. Peter can currently be seen Br'er Cotton at Cleveland Public Theatre and in the premiere screening of Assassin's Code at the 42nd Cleveland International Film Festival April 12th & 14th. 

Terrence Spivey, who coordinated and will be moderating the event, is a freelance director and Founding Director of Powerful Long Ladder in residence at Holy Trinity Cultural Center where he directed James Baldwin's The Amen Corner. He later directed Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill at Weathervane Playhouse to critical acclaim and revived it at Holy Trinity in March. Spivey was artistic director of Karamu House for over twelve years gaining national recognition, winning numerous awards and programming over seventy productions for the historical institution. Since leaving Karamu House in 2016, Spivey has directed thought provoking productions such Robert O' Hara's Bootycandy, voted one of the Plain Dealer's Top 10 2016 plays, Brandon Jacob- Jenkins Neighbors and the nationally acclaimed Objectively/Reasonable: The Community Response to the Shooting of Tamir Rice, 12/22/14. He was voted Best Director in 2017 by Cleveland Scene.
