Keeping Up With the KEB Team

Many things have changed over the past few months, but some things have remained the same.  Keep Euclid Beautiful (KEB Team) is still busy collecting litter, recycling and promoting beautification.  The way we accomplish these things is a bit different with social distancing, mask wearing, and smaller outings, but our mission remains the same; that is, residents Keeping Euclid Beautiful and Doing Beautiful Things.

Who is the KEB Team?  Keep Euclid Beautiful was formed in 2017 with the cooperation of Mayor Kirsten Holzheimer Gail's office and Euclid residents.  Eight Euclid residents and two city of Euclid employees received training from national non-profit, Keep America Beautiful to become an official affilaite of their organazation. We have grown in leaps and bounds over the past few years and are always looking for volunteers and a chance to partner with Euclid businesses.

The Big Clean is Keep Euclid Beautiful's main event.  Every spring KEB partners with Collinwood and VASJ for a friendly competition to "spring"clean the city and pick up as much litter as possilbe in one day.  Unfortunatley the Big Clean 2020 event had to be cancelled this year because it draws hundreds of volunteers, but hopefully we will be back to it in April 2021.

The last Saturday of June, Keep Ohio Beautiful (State level Affiliate) joined KEB and together cleaned Sims park, beach and pier along with part of Lakeshore Blvd.  Volunteers were then treated to pizza, courtesy of Keep Ohio Beautiful.  Saturday, July 25th, Cleveland Rock Gym, located right here in Euclid, sponsored KEB's July cleanup at E. 260th & Brush Ave.  Volunteers cleaned up trash and pulled weeds from 9am to 11am and were then invited back to Cleveland Rock Gym  for free food, fun and climbing.  All of our litter cleanups are capped at 25 people and volunteers are carefully spaced out by being assigned certain areas to clean.  All CDC Covid-19 guidelines are striclty followed.  If you are a business interested in sponsoring our August or Fall cleanup, please contact Linda at 216-289-2786 / lbeck@cityofeuclid.com
Keep Euclid Beautiful provides all cleanup supplies, masks and sanitation supplies.

Keep Euclid Beautiful has also been busy taking nominations for its annual Yard of the Year Contest.  Nominations are accepted through August 5th.  The KEB Team will notify residents by mail they have been nominated.  The KEB Team will then go in pairs to carefully score each nominee and determine one winner for each of Euclid's 8 wards.  Check our page on the website www.cityofeuclid.com under resident information/keepeuclidbeautiful for updates.  All winners will be announced in the September Euclid Observer.

Keep Euclid Beautiful was once again awarded a Keep Ohio Beautiful/ Sherwin Williams paint grant in 2020. KEB will use the paint award to produce a 3rd community mural.  The mural will be painted on the Babbitt rd. underpass near Amazon.  The scheduled date is the weekend of September 26-27th.  Where are the other 2 murals you ask?  The first, The Octopus, is located on the side of the building of the newly opend Pulp on Lake Shore Blvd. and the other is our 'Welcome to Euclid" postcard at Dempsey's corner on E. 222 St.  Keep Euclid Beautiful really appreciates the support of our community partner, Sherwin Williams.  Along with offering this paint grant in Ohio each year, they have donated blue and yellow paint for our service department to paint the skate park on Milton Dr and the dugouts at one of the city baseball fields.

Attention to all of our resident gardeners in Euclid.  Keep Euclid Beautiful will be having it's first ever, free plant exchange this October 3rd.  We will be looking for donations that can be given out freely to residents that wish to beautify their yards. If you have plants to split, please consider dropping them off on October 3rd!  Educated gardeners will be on hand to give advice to new gardeners on how to plant and care for what they take home.  The exchange will be at the Memorial Communtiy Gardens on Milton Dr next to Memorial Park.  Stay tuned for more details and a chance to be part of this.

So now you are up to date with the KEB Team, but check our webpage and the Observer often because we are a busy bunch.  We know that many of you clean your neighborhoods regularly, and we sincerely appreciate you. Keep Euclid Beautiful will continue to be about empowering residents to Do Beautiful Things.
